Srinagar, April 03: J&K Assembly Speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather, today said that the Waqf Amendment bill is a violation of the Article 25 of Indian constitution which has given the right to religion to the people of the country.

Talking to reporters, Rather, in reply to a question on the passage of Waqf Amendment bill in Lok Sabha, said, “I think as far as the bill is concerned this is a violation of the Article 25 of Indian constitution which has given right to religion to the people of the country.” “It is not good to interfere in someone's personal law," he said.

On a question about Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks that this bill was not about religion, Rather said, “I think it is a violation of the right to religion which has been guaranteed in Article 25 of Indian constitution.”

About the preparations for the remaining days of the Assembly session, he said, “Maximum proceedings have been completed. We have passed the Budget, and we have given complete freedom to the members to speak in the Assembly. The Assembly is again being convened for three days and on other business, we would ensure that the other members raise the public issues in the Assembly.”
