Youth arrested along with pistol, two grenades in north Kashmir's Handwara
Srinagar, Oct 30: Officials Wednesday said they arrested a youth for allegedly transporting arms and ammunition in a bag of rice on his motorcycle in north Kashmir's Handwara.
Officials said they established a checkpoint in Chhampura under police station Vilgam in Handwara after receiving specific inputs.
A motorcycle coming from Taratpura was stopped and upon questioning, the rider identified himself as Shahid Saleem Lone, 27, son of Ghulam Mohd Lone, resident of Bijhama Boniyar, Baramulla.
Officials said, he was carrying a small bag of rice on his bike and on searching the bag, the security forces found one pistol, one magazine, six pistol rods, and two Chinese grenades.
The person was apprehended on the spot and taken to the Bn HQ 15 RR Vilgam for further questioning, said an official statement
The further questioning revealed that the accused is a graduate and has been involved in smuggling of drugs. As per officials, the accused earned enough money to start his own business. Facing loses, he got involved in illegal activities.
He was asked to carry this consignment to Sopore but was apprehended enroute, courtesy precise intelligence, said the statement.
Further questioning is in progress and subsequent outcome will be intimated on his revelation during investigation, the statement concluded.
