Srinagar, Jan 1: In the rapidly evolving landscape of cybercrime, the Cyber Police in Kashmir has been vigilant and proactive throughout the year 2023, tackling a range of digital offences and ensuring the safety and security of the online space.

The data accessed by Greater Kashmir from the office of Zonal Police Headquarters reveals that Kashmir Cyber Police in 2023 registered 39 FIRs, redressed 583 cases via NCCRP, and recovered Rs 2 crore, besides redressing miscellaneous cases.

The year 2023 witnessed an escalation in the sophistication of cyber threats, posing challenges for law enforcement agencies.

“The achievements of 2023 reflect a commitment to safeguarding the digital space and instilling confidence among citizens,” the IGP Kashmir said. “The Cyber Police remains dedicated to adapting to evolving threats, leveraging technology, and working hand-in-hand with the community to ensure a secure cyber environment for all.”

TOTAL FIRs REGISTERED

The Cyber Police registered a total of 39 FIRs during the year 2023, reflecting a significant increase in the reporting and acknowledgement of cybercrimes.

Chargesheeted Cases

Of the registered cases, 28 have been successfully chargesheeted, demonstrating the commitment of the Cyber Police to bringing perpetrators to justice and ensuring legal proceedings against cyber criminals.

NCCRP Redressal

The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCCRP) played a pivotal role in the redressal process, with a total of 583 cases resolved through this national platform. The NCCRP has proven to be an effective mechanism for citizens to report and seek resolution for cyber-related grievances.

Miscellaneous Cases

In addition to specific cybercrime cases, the Cyber Police successfully redressed 1800 miscellaneous cases, showcasing a holistic approach to addressing various digital concerns raised by the public.

Financial Impact

The Cyber Police in Kashmir played a crucial role in recovering and refunding funds related to cybercrimes.

An impressive amount of Rs 2 crore was recovered or refunded during the year, underscoring the financial implications of the cybercrimes prevented and addressed.

Swift Action in Response to Emerging Threats

The Cyber Police demonstrated agility in responding to emerging cyber threats, swiftly registering FIRs and taking necessary actions to contain and investigate the incidents.
