Srinagar, Oct 28: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), J&K, Nitish Kumar Monday said that they were working for timely redress of grievances of people to improve the interface between the J&K Police and public.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the inauguration of a Public Grievance cell at CID Headquarters in Srinagar, Kumar said, “The Lieutenant Governor earlier issued directions that we have to improve the interface between the Police and the public.”

The Public Grievance Cell has been established at CID Headquarters near the Government Arts Emporium in Srinagar.

“We have to timely address the grievances of the people. For that purpose, a grievance cell has been made here. A similar cell is being made in Jammu as well,” the ADGP CID told reporters.

He said that the CID earlier had had a system to bring the grievances to the Police regarding their verification.

“But now we have formalised the whole process. People who have issues related to passport verification, service verification or any other verification they can visit here and interact with the officers directly here,” Kumar said.

He said there were several issues which would get skipped throughout the system following which the people could not take up their grievances with the department.

“Now the grievance cell is in place and People who have issues related to the system can directly come here. It is a good initiative by which the public service delivery will be improved,” the ADGP CID said.

He said, to begin with, the newly established public grievance cell will remain functional once in a week. “We will see the response of the people and I expect that it will witness a huge rush during the initial stage. If the need arises we will keep it open for two days in a week,” Kumar said.

He said that the Public Grievance Cell would open on Tuesday and a senior Police officer would be present to attend to the public.

“There is no need for anyone to use any influence. They can come directly here and put forth their grievances,” the ADGP CID said.

He said he would also remain available to the public.

“If am available I will also be here for the public,” Kumar said.

The CID had issued the contact number and email for the public to register their grievances.

The people can register themselves for an appointment on Cell No 9906126468 (WhatsApp) and email grievance-cidjk@jkpolice.gov.inor contact on landline number 0194-2459935.
