Security forces heighten vigil in Pir Panjal
Rajouri, Oct 28: Security forces heightened the vigil in Pir Panjal region’s twin border districts Rajouri and Poonch in the wake of the militant attack and encounter at Akhnoor.
The incident at Akhnoor's took place on Monday morning when an Army convoy passing through the area came under attack from the militants who fired a volley of bullets at the vehicles. The Army personnel retaliated promptly foiling the attack and no injuries were reported in the incident.
A massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched after this incident and security forces successfully intercepted the group of militants present in the area which resulted in an encounter that was going on when the last reports were received.
The Army said that a terrorist was killed in this encounter so far and his body was also recovered.
The site of the incident is located adjacent to Sunderbani of Rajouri with security forces having further upgraded the arrangements of security in the Pir Panjal region.
Officials said that the security situation in this region is already on high alert and after this fresh incident, further alertness is being maintained by the field troops, especially in the areas of the hinterland as well as the areas located near the Line of Control (LoC).
“All the Mobile Vehicle Check Points (MVCPs), as well as Permanent Checkpoints, have been strengthened and joint teams of forces including Army, Police, SoG, and CRPF is maintaining high alert,” officials said.
