VMS, other NGOs pay tributes to Khurshid Malik
Srinagar, Oct 22: The Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) on Tuesday held a memorial meeting on Tuesday at its main campus in Bemina in memory of its Vice President Khurshid Ahmad Malik, who passed away on October 16.
A joint statement of VMS and other NGOs issued here said that the meeting was attended by the management committee, staff members, and representatives of the Wheelchair Association of Kashmir, Zeba Apapa Institute, Bijbehara, Help Poor Voluntary Trust, Iqbal Memorial Institute.
They paid tributes to Malik for dedicating his life to the service of others and for his unmatched work in the area of disability.
“Despite being wheelchair-bound for 37 years after a road accident, Malik served with distinction as an IAS officer and remained a passionate advocate for the rights and rehabilitation of people with disabilities. His role in rendering peer counselling to the spinal cord injury victims inspired over 2000 such victims to live a near normal life and even work to earn a livelihood,” the statement said. “Some of the beneficiaries of his counselling are Padam Shri Javed Ahmad Tak of Zeba Aapa Institute, Dildar Ahmad another disability rights activist, Gurdeep Singh, a known disability warrior, Insha, and a host of others who recounted how Malik inspired them to fight the disability and live normally.”
