Vehicle of notorious drug peddler seized in Handwara

Kupwara, Dec 17: Police on Tuesday seized the vehicle of a notorious drug peddler in Handwara after discovering that the vehicle was allegedly bought using proceeds from illicit drug trafficking activities.

The vehicle (Hyundai Venue registration number JK01AT/4651) worth Rs 10.5 lakh, was attached as part of ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace.

The vehicle belonged to the notorious drug peddler Javeed Ahmad Sofi, resident of Main Market Handwara.

Meanwhile Police in a statement said, “In a major move against drug trafficking, Handwara Police seized a Hyundai Venue (registration number JK01AT/4651) worth Rs 10.5 lakh, allegedly bought using proceeds from illicit drug trafficking activities. The vehicle, belonging to notorious drug peddler Javeed Ahmad Sofi, from Khunbal, Handwara, District Kupwara, was attached as part of ongoing efforts to combat the drug menace”.

“The action was taken under Section 68(f)(1) of the NDPS Act of 1985 and is linked to several drug-related cases, including FIR No 193/2024, FIR No 266/2022, and FIR No 101/2018, all under various sections of the NDPS Act. During the investigation, the vehicle was identified as an illegally acquired property, purchased from the proceeds of illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances” reads the statement.
