Udhampur, Oct 8: The District Udhampur Softball Championship 2025–26 opened Wednesday at Subhash Stadium with 240 athletes from schools and clubs across the district competing in sub-junior, junior, and senior categories.

As per a statement, the event is organised by the District Udhampur Softball Association & J&K Sports Council under the auspices of the Jammu & Kashmir Softball Association.

Sandeep Bhat, Additional Superintendent of Police, Udhampur, was the chief guest at the opening function, while Sh. Ramesh Chandra Mishra, District Officer, Youth Services and Sports, Udhampur, presided over the ceremony as Guest of Honour.

Moreover, 240 athletes from various registered softball clubs & schools in Udhampur District participated in the sub-junior (boys & girls), junior (boys & girls) and senior (men & women) categories.

The Chief Guest lauded the tremendous support of the J&K Sports Council for conducting the championship at the district level in which players from the remote areas of Udhampur District also participated. He appreciated the support of the staff of the Sports Council at the J&K Sports Council sports facility at Subhash Stadium.

He also congratulated the District Udhampur Softball Association, especially Gulshan Begum, secretary of the district association in District Udhampur, for organising the championship and providing a platform to young and energetic softball players of the district.

He expressed gratitude to Rawat Singh, Chairperson of the Umpiring Commission, Jammu & Kashmir Softball Association, and other members, which includes Jasbir Singh, Ajay Singh and other supporting staff, Anshu Khanna, Jatin Singh & Jasvinder Singh, for the technical support for conducting the championship in a professional manner.

He praised the support of schools, clubs and media persons for their contribution towards the successful conduction of this championship, which will definitely boost the morale of participants who are mainly from rural areas of Udhampur District.

12 matches were played in 3 categories in both sections.
