Pulwama, Feb 23: For the last eight years, shortage of drinking water has caused immense hardship to residents of Naner village in Tral while urging authorities to address their grievances now.

According to KNO, residents of Gujjar Basti Tral said that their area has been facing a water crisis for a long time now but no steps are being taken in this regard.

They said that for the last eight years the residents of the area have been facing inconvenience due to unavailability of potable water in the area and they have to travel around three kilometres to fetch water.

Mohammad Akram, a local, said that they continue to consume contaminated water for years as they don’t have access to potable water yet.

He said that during precipitation, they face more inconvenience as it isn’t easy to travel for long distances during frosty weather conditions.

Manzoor Ahmad another local said that due to the consumption of unsafe water the threat of water-borne diseases looms large over the area.

He said that PHE authorities were sending water tankers sometimes but due to absence of proper road connectivity, tankers are unable to reach here during wet weather.

Locals said that they were assured by the authorities several times but nothing happened on the ground.

They said that they have brought this issue to notice of higher ups several times, but to no avail.

Several times officials visited here and assured people that the area will get the water supply, but of no avail, they said.

Meanwhile an official of the concerned department said that the area is being covered under Jal Jeevan Mission and the area will get potable water soon.
