Traffic Police Rural intensify drive to curb violations
Srinagar, Nov 19: In view of the recent traffic accidents which claimed several precious human lives and to curb the traffic violations, Traffic Police Rural Kashmir have intensified its drive against those found on the wrong side of law.
Traffic officials said that they have intensified the drive against those drivers who are not obeying the rules and indulge in violations like overloading, driving without seat belts, bikers not wearing helmets and particularly the teenagers who are driving without licenses .
Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh told Greater Kashmir that the move is aimed to inculcate the traffic discipline and to reduce the accidents.
“The continuous drive is focused on visible offences and for maintaining road safety. During this intensified campaign, traffic violators especially bike riders and teenagers driving two wheelers or four wheelers are being challaned and counselled,” he said, adding that the vehicles are being seized as well.
He said a similar drive was carried out in various areas under the jurisdiction of Traffic Police Rural Kashmir in the last few days and around 200 bikes and four wheelers have been seized.
Special squads have also been constituted for the enforcement of traffic rules. Special drives are being conducted in all areas under the jurisdiction of Traffic Police Rural Kashmir to advise and inform the drivers to abide by the traffic rules, the SSP said.
Officials said that they are ensuring result oriented action towards the safety of general masses.
SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir has directed all the officers of his unit to launch special enforcement drives in their AORs, targeting traffic law violations which mostly lead to road accidents and fatalities.
All the officers have also been directed to ensure zero tolerance against the trend of driving of vehicles by minors.
Special counseling sessions were also conducted informing citizens regarding repercussions of allowing minors to drive two and four wheelers.
Further, the traffic authorities on Monday initiated an action against a student from Pattan after a video circulated on social media showed him performing stunts.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir took swift action against the accused after he was found performing stunts with the vehicle bearing registration number JK01AQ-5272.
“Upon investigation, Gojree, a resident of Iqbal Colony, Pattan, was identified as the driver. The vehicle was immediately seized by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Traffic Baramulla, and Gojree’s driving license (D/L) has been recommended for suspension. Additionally, the registration certificate (RC) of the vehicle involved in the incident has been recommended for cancellation,” officials said.
