Ramban, Sep 22: Vehicular traffic movement was suspended for night on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) on Sunday.

According to officials, this was done for launching heavy girders on a viaduct of four lane project in Ramsu area of Ramban district. Subsequently, both side traffic movements was suspended after 3 pm from Qazigund (Kashmir) and after 5 pm from Udhampur on the highway.

However, traffic officials monitoring regulation of traffic between Nashri and Banihal said that traffic is being cleared. No vehicle would be allowed to ply between Nashri and Banihal tunnels between 11 pm upto Monday morning.

Official sources said to ensure safety of general populace/travelers /drivers, on the request of NHAI, District Magistrate Ramban vide order no. ADMR/964-77 dated 21-09-2024 accorded permission to NHAI for girder shifting and launching at viaduct-02 A1 side NB & SB at Ramsoo on Jammu Srinagar National Highway . Because of it traffic will remain suspended between Nashri and Banihal (NAVYUG) tunnels on 22 and 23 September, (Intervening night) from 11 pm, ( September 22 ) to 5 am ( September 23 ).

I n view of traffic haltage on National Highway, no movement of any kind of vehicle was allowed after 3 pm from Qazigund, Kashmir towards Jammu and 2pm, from Udhampur towards Srinagar on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Basheer Ul Haq Choudary while updating traffic status on X wrote that a six hour halt on NH-44 (Ramban Banihal section) is scheduled from 11 pm to 5 am on the night of September 22 and 23 at viaduct (A1 side of NB&SB Ramsoo for urgent girder shifting.

SSP Ramban & SSP traffic will enforce halt.

Meanwhile Jammu and Kashmir traffic department issued a fresh advisory for Monday stating that subject to fair weather and green signal from NHAI, private cars passenger light-medium vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side of NH-44.
