Snow clearance work continues on roads in Rajouri, Poonch

Rajouri, Feb 5: The snow clearance operation on roads in Rajouri and Poonch districts continued for the second consecutive day today.

The movement of vehicles has been affected on the roads after the snowfall in last two days.

Over one dozen roads were affected after snowfall during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. However, some roads were reopened on Sunday evening after snow clearance was completed there.

Officials from Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Department told Greater Kashmir that no main road under their control in twin districts is closed so far except a few link roads which are under construction.

They said that snow clearance work on road from Chandimarh to Poshana was also launched on Monday and is nearing completion.

However, the main road connecting Thanamandi sub division of Rajouri district with Surankote sub division of Poonch district remained closed for movement of vehicles for second consecutive day on Monday.

The road got closed in the wee morning hours on Sunday after fresh snowfall. The road is still closed.

Locals told Greater Kashmir that the road, also called as Dehra Ki Gali (DKG) road, is continues closed from Manyal Gali from DKG upto Bufliyaz from Surankote side.

DTI Traffic Rajouri, Ajaz Mirza said that road is closed for movement of vehicles and its restoration depends on fair weather conditions in next one or two days.
