Srinagar, Nov 16: The security agencies have strengthened their grid along the Line of Control (LoC) with the fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of Kashmir.

The official said there were chances that the terrorists might make an attempt to come down from the higher reaches to the lower reaches after the fresh snowfall.

However, the security officials said there were bleak chances of terrorists sneaking into populated areas.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Inspector General of Border Security Forces (BSF), Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav said that the security grid was alert and the area domination was being maintained on the vulnerable patches in close coordination with other security agencies.

“Given the snowfall, the terrorists may attempt to move towards lower reaches but taking shelter in populated areas is not possible. Our security grid is very strong," IG BSF Kashmir frontier told Greater Kashmir.

About the movement of terrorists from Jammu to Valley, the IG BSF said they (terrorists) never stay in one position and there can be a possibility of their movement from one place to another.

“But we are alert and will thwart their attempts to disturb the peace,” he said.

On the recent anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir and Jammu region, the IG BSF Kashmir Frontier said they have made the security grid stronger and put them on alert saying that the focus always remains on thwarting any infiltration attempts from the Line of Control (LoC).

“Our focus is that no new infiltration happens. Terrorists always remain there on the launch pad and some unsuccessful attempts were made by them in the past to infiltrate to this side. However, we are working in good coordination with the Army to thwart any such new attempts as well,” Yadav said.

Meanwhile, an Army official posted in north Kashmir said the security grid was put on alert along the Uri sector as well as in the Gulmarg area.

“Once it snows in the upper reaches, it becomes difficult for the terrorists to survive in the forests. Even if they have some hideouts dug there. They always try to move towards the hinterland. But, we are alert and the security system has been strengthened all over,” the Army officer said.

Another top security official while briefing about the security situation along the LoC in the Gurez sector said that some infiltration attempts were made by terrorists from the Gurez sector in the past.

“But this year there are no such apprehensions. We are on alert and the security grid has been strengthened,” the official said.

However, while referring to the Gagangeer terrorist attack in which seven persons including six labourers and a doctor were killed and five others were injured, the officer said the episode had put the security grid on alert.

“The way dynamics are changing, we are also chalking out new strategies and making the security system completely foolproof. Particularly, the security grid along the LoC in the Gurez sector is packed,” the official said.
