Restoration of 5th spring begins at Mughal Mohalla

Srinagar, Oct 16: The Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) today announced the commencement of the restoration of the fifth spring at Mughal Mohalla area of Rainawari.

This restoration work is part of the restoration project to Phase 4 of Mission Ehsaas, NLCO’s ongoing initiative focused on the rejuvenation and conservation of water bodies.

“Spring 5, once a symbol of life and vitality for the community, had fallen into disrepair and become defunct. Today, NLCO has initiated its efforts to bring the spring back to life, with support from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the Jammu & Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LC&MA). The revitalisation of this spring is crucial, not only for the restoration but also for alleviating the water crisis faced by the local residents,” NLCO chairman, Manzoor Wangnoo, said in a statement.

Wangnoo said that this spring was once a vital water source for the Mughal Mohalla area. “But over the years, it has become defunct and dilapidated. Today, we begin the important task of restoring this spring, and I am optimistic that it will once again become a lifeline for the community. With the continuous support of SMC, LC&MA, and the local residents, we hope for a swift and successful restoration. This effort is part of our broader commitment to conserve and rejuvenate the fragile water resources of Kashmir under Mission Ehsaas,” he said.

Wangnoo further emphasised that restoring springs is an integral part of water conservation in Kashmir, particularly as these springs contribute to mitigating local water shortages and ensuring the ecological balance of the valley. The restoration of Spring 5 is expected to set an example for similar initiatives across J&K, and NLCO calls on all stakeholders to continue their active participation in the mission.
