Srinagar, Nov 4: The first edition of the Ranking Wushu Tournament for the 20th Asian Games concluded successfully in Srinagar on Tuesday, with around 120 athletes from across the country showcasing outstanding performances in both Sanda and Taolu events over three days.

As per a statement issued on Tuesday, the top eight ranked athletes shortlisted during the selection trials held at Srinagar, along with two medallists from the All India Police Games, were invited to participate in this ranking event.

Prior to the competition, all shortlisted athletes underwent a physical fitness assessment to evaluate their fitness parameters. Only those who met the required standards were permitted to compete. The athletes exhibited exemplary performances in both Sanda and Taolu events throughout the tournament.

Based on the overall performance, the Selection Committee of the Wushu Association of India has recommended the top four ranked athletes for the National Wushu Coaching Camp, scheduled to be held from 15th November to 14th December. Furthermore, the top two ranked athletes will be recommended for two months of foreign exposure training in China, commencing in mid-December and concluding on 30th January.

The second edition of the Ranking Tournament is proposed to be held in February 2026. Additionally, the Selection Committee has recommended open trials in five events for the remaining three places to ensure that the best athletes are identified for the ranking squad.

It is noteworthy that eight athletes from Jammu & Kashmir have secured their places among the top-ranked competitors, showcasing the region’s continued rise and excellence in Wushu.

During the closing ceremony, Vijay Saraf, General Secretary, Wushu Association of India; Suhel Ahmed, CEO, WAI; Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee); and Atul AP, Chief Coach, were present.

They extended their best wishes to the athletes and expressed confidence that India is targeting at least five medals, including gold, in the upcoming Asian Games.
