Ranji Trophy Season 2025-26: JKCA all set to host star-studded Mumbai at Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Ranji series opener
Srinagar, Sep 23: Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) is all set to host a star-studded Mumbai side in their Ranji Trophy 2025 opener at Sher-i-Kashmir International Cricket Stadium, Sonwar, from October 15.
The four-day clash is expected to draw huge interest as domestic heavyweights Mumbai are with a power-packed squad that includes senior India batter Ajinkya Rahane, rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, prolific run-getter Sarfaraz Khan, and current India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and will be taking on host JKCA’s cricket team.
Top JKCA officials told Greater Kashmir that preparations were in full swing to host the season’s Ranji opener in Srinagar, with the ground and facilities being fine-tuned to ensure smooth conduct of the high-profile match.
Rajasthan match shifted to Srinagar after Jammu floods
Meanwhile, J&K’s second home fixture against Rajasthan, which was earlier scheduled in Jammu on October 25, has been shifted to Srinagar after recent floods damaged the ground in Jammu. The Sher-i-Kashmir International Stadium will now host both fixtures.
“This is a great opportunity for our players and cricket fans in Srinagar to witness back-to-back Ranji Trophy matches, including one against Mumbai, the giants of Indian domestic cricket,” a JKCA official said.
Fans expected in large numbers
Cricket in the Kashmir Valley has been witnessing massive support in recent years, with crowds thronging even far-off grounds to watch domestic and local games. The Ranji Trophy is expected to be no different, with thousands of enthusiasts likely to make their way to Sonwar in Srinagar to cheer for the home side.
It will be particularly interesting to see how the passionate local fans back the J&K cricket team as they take on the domestic giants Mumbai, who bring unmatched pedigree and star power to the Valley.
As per reports, entry for spectators has been kept open and free of cost.
