Protesters block Karihama-Kupwara road, seek restoration of water supply
Kupwara, Nov 7: The residents of Karihama Rather Mohalla Thursday held a protest against Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide them water for the last several months, subjecting them to severe hardships.
The protesters, mainly women, blocked Karihama-Kupwara road to seek restoration of water.
"We have been badly suffering due to lack of water but authorities were doing nothing about it," said a woman protester.
"The concerned department has miserably failed to mitigate our issue, forcing us to register a protest. In fact the department has taken us for a ride," she added.
"Previous year new water pipes were laid in our village to provide us water but after the passage of one year, our village is yet to get potable drinking water," said another female protestor.
She said that even the concerned department has failed to deploy a water tanker for their village, making things even more worse and complicated for the locals.
The protesters complained that they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned officials numerous times but to no avail.
Later a police party reached the spot. After receiving concrete assurance of getting water regularly, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
