Power transformer at low height in Magam area poses threat to people
Kupwara, Aug 31: The residents of Magam Saturday expressed strong resentment against authorities for failing to replace an electric transformer installed close to ground level near Police Post Magam in north Kashmir’s Handwara area.
The residents said that the transformer was posing a grave threat to the lives of people, yet the concerned department was doing nothing to change its height.
“The transformer, with a capacity of 100 KV is located at a mere 2 feet above the ground level. This poses a significant safety risk to the general public, particularly students who pass by the area,” Shiekh Jamsheed, a local social activist, told Greater Kashmir.
“The issue was raised during a Public Darbar held at Town Hall Handwara. Regrettably no action has been taken by the PDD department so far in this regard,” he added.
The residents have sought immediate intervention of Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara Aziz Ahmad Rather in this regard so that any possible untoward incident may be thwarted.
