Police initiates probe into circulation of fake letter in BJP leader’s name
Srinagar, Sep 11: Police in Srinagar registered an FIR following a written complaint lodged by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding a fabricated communication being circulated on social media platforms.
A statement of the BJP issued here said that the fake letter, falsely attributed to BJP’s J&K unit Ravinder Raina, called on party workers to welcome jailed politician Engineer Rashid upon his anticipated release.
The complaint, which led to the registration of the FIR at Rajbagh Police Station, alleges that the counterfeit letter was created on a fake letterhead purportedly belonging to Raina.
It was shared widely on social media, sparking confusion and misinformation regarding the BJP’s political stance ahead of the J&K assembly polls.
“An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and a thorough investigation has been initiated to identify the individuals responsible for this forgery and misinformation campaign,” a senior Police official said.
The fake letter claimed that BJP party workers should offer a grand welcome to Engineer Rashid, a Member of Parliament recently granted bail.
Raina strongly denied the contents of the letter, calling it “a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and damage the reputation of the BJP”.
The party urged its supporters to ignore such fabrications and called on the authorities to act swiftly.
