Police arrest 6 drug peddlers in Kashmir
Srinagar, Jan 3: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 6 drug peddlers across Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, a police party of PS Anantnag during naka checking at Bypass near Ganjiwada intercepted a suspicious person. During the search, 400 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Zakir Ahmad Zargar, resident of Papibal Anantnag. Similarly, a police team from Police Post Dialgam at a checkpoint established at Bonadialgam near Bypass, intercepted a suspicious person. During the search, 350 grams of Charas was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Aamir Hussain Malik, resident of Pushwara Khanabal.
In Baramulla, a Police party of Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Paranpeelan-Bandi Crossing Uri, intercepted one person who has been identified as Mohd Showkat Awan , resident of Dawaran. During the search, 1.7kgs of Cannabis Powder like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody.
In Budgam, a police party of PS Beerwah at a checkpoint established at village Charangam, intercepted a person identified as Waheed Ahmad Magray, resident of Charangam Beerwah. During his personal search, 6 sticks of charas-like substance wrapped in corn husk weighing 76 grams were recovered from his possession. Besides, a mobile phone with sim card stands also recovered from his possession.
In Awantipora, a police party during naka checking in the area of PS Awantipora arrested two drug peddlers. During search, 12.2 kg Brown Sugar like substance from their possession. They have been identified as Muzaffer Ahmad Dar, and Riyaz Ahmad Mir residents of Chati Mohalla Khunmoh Pantha Chowk.
All the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and further investigation have been initiated.
“People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
