PM Modi’s message on X read, “Had a very warm and engaging conversation with President Trump. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments. India and the U.S. will continue to work together for global peace, stability and prosperity. @realDonaldTrump @POTUS”
Relations between New Delhi and Washington have been tense for more than six months, following a series of US trade measures that imposed higher taxes on Indian exports. The Biden administration had also urged India to scale back purchases of discounted Russian crude, adding friction to the partnership. The latest interaction between the two leaders comes amid efforts on both sides to recalibrate ties and reinforce cooperation on strategic, economic and security issues. Officials have yet to release further details of the conversation, but both governments are expected to continue engagement as they navigate differences on trade and energy while pursuing broader geopolitical alignment.
