Srinagar, Aug 29: Amid incessant rains, the summer capital came to a standstill on Thursday as heavy traffic jam plagued the city's busy hours, leading to unease among commuters.

The downpour, which has continued intermittently for whole day caused major disruptions, with several key roads in the city being inundated.

The situation was exacerbated by the malfunctioning of traffic lights at several intersections, adding to the chaos. This combination of factors created a perfect storm, leaving commuters stranded in long queues of vehicles.

Government officials, students, and workers across various sectors were among the most affected by the gridlock. Many commuters said that there was delay in reaching their destinations. The traffic jams were particularly severe during the morning and evening rush hours when people were either on their way to work or returning home.

"I left home early to avoid the usual traffic, but due to the rain and road conditions, I was stuck for over an hour. It's frustrating because there was no way to inform the office about the delay," said a government employees who works in Civil Secretariat.

Students heading to schools and colleges also faced severe delays, with some missing their first classes.

"I had to drop my children to school today, but the traffic was so bad that they arrived late. The roads were completely flooded with traffic,” said Musheem Ahmad, a resident of Rajbagh.

"We are aware of the issues caused by the incessant rains. Our teams are working on the ground to manage the situation, but we request commuters to avoid unnecessary travel and follow traffic advisories," said a senior traffic police officer.
