Srinagar, Nov 29: J&K Police on Wednesday said that they have registered a case and booked a National Institute of Technology (NIT) student for uploading sensitive content against the religious sentiments of a particular community.

In a series of posts on X, Police said that a case had been registered and at the same time appealed to people to desist from spreading rumours and false information.
They urged the people that they should not fall prey to false propaganda of anti-social elements.

“Police have taken cognisance of the incident of uploading of sensitive content against religious sentiments of a particular community by one student of NIT Srinagar. Upon receipt of communication from NIT authorities, case FIR No 156/23 under Sections 295-A, 153-A, and 153 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) registered at Police Station Nigeen on November 28, 23,” Srinagar Police posted on X.
“People are appealed to desist from spreading rumours and false information. They should not fall prey to false propaganda of anti-social elements. Legal action will be taken against those who are found to be
involved in provocative act and instigation,” read the next post of Srinagar Police on X.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Virdi Kumar Birdi on Tuesday said that they had initiated a legal action against the student involved in sharing the sensitive content.
Meanwhile, the Cyber Police initiated action and urged people to refrain from sharing provocative and inappropriate content.

Stating that action under the law was being initiated against rumour mongers, Cyber Police Kashmir on Wednesday advised all social media handlers to refrain from posting provocative and inappropriate content on their social media.

ACADEMIC WORK HIT IN NIT

In the backdrop of the situation following the uploading of sensitive content on social media, the academic work remained suspended in NIT on Wednesday.

“It was suspended on Wednesday and it will resume on Thursday as examinations are being held,” NIT Registrar, Atiq-ur-Rehman told Greater Kashmir. “Today there was not any problem and students were preparing for the examination.”
