Missing sailor’s family seeks intervention of PM, DM, LG
Jammu, Mar 3: The family of missing Indian Navy sailor has sought the intervention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in tracing him and instituting CBI probe into the circumstances leading to his “disappearance” from the naval ship.
Seaman-II Sahil Verma- a Jammuite, went missing from an Indian naval ship while on duty on February 27, 2024. A massive search operation was launched by the navy to trace him. However, so far, success has eluded it. “In an unfortunate incident, Sahil Verma, Seaman II, has been reported missing at sea from Indian Naval Ship whilst on deployment since 27 Feb 24. The Navy immediately launched a massive search operation with ships and aircraft, which is still continuing,” Western Naval Command posted on ‘X’.
The navy said that a high-level Board of Inquiry was also instituted into the incident.
The distraught parents of Sahil, a resident of Gho Manhasan in Jammu outskirts, while speaking to media persons on Sunday, said, “How could a soldier go missing from a naval ship like this? He could not be traced even after a week. We were informed on February 29 about his disappearance. We are not satisfied -the way things are proceeding. We want a CBI probe. We want justice.”
