Militant killed, another injured in intense gunfight in Baramulla
Baramulla, Sept 14: An unidentified militant was killed and another injured in an encounter with security forces in the Chaki Tappar area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Saturday, officials said.
A top police official told Greater Kashmir that one militant was killed while another one has been injured in the firefight.
He further said the identity of the slain militant is being ascertained.
The encounter broke out during late hours on Friday following an input about the presence of three militants in the area.
The area was cordoned off by joint teams of Baramulla Police, 29 RR of Indian Army and SOG Kreeri.
The official said that a highly trained group of militants was trapped by the forces. "It is an orchard area and there is a very deep gorge at the site," the official added.
The intense firing from both sides was going on when this report was being filed.
