Militancy has spread to previously peaceful areas: Mehbooba Mufti
Srinagar, July 20: PDP President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, today criticised the government’s approach towards terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, reports a local news agency, KNS.
She asserted that despite government claims, militancy has not been eradicated and has even spread to previously peaceful areas.
The PDP chief made these remarks during a party function here. She also criticised the BJP regarding a recent directive from the Muzaffarnagar administration in Uttar Pradesh that requires shop and kiosk owners to display their names.
Mehbooba questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the Muzaffarnagar order and urged him to clarify his stance on the directive. She also commented on the BJP's electoral performance, noting a reduction in their Lok Sabha seats from 300 to 240 but seeing no change in their approach.
PDP President claimed that the BJP and its central government aim to undermine the Constitution of India, which ensures equal rights for all individuals. She noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had previously warned that the BJP might alter the Constitution if they retained power.
