'Assault on constitutional rights can't be celebrated': NC, CPI(M) not to participate in UT Foundation Day event
Srinagar, Oct 30: National Conference (NC) and CPI(M) on Wednesday said they will not participate in Union Territory (UT) Day function, being celebrated on October 31, tomorrow. They said that assault on constitutional rights can’ be celebrated.
They said whatever has been taken away on August 05, 2019 was “unconstitutional”.
NC MLA from Zadibal, and party chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said that NC will not join UT Day function.
“NC is not going to join UT Day function. It is absolutely unfair. We believe whatever has been snatched from people of Jammu & Kashmir on August 05, 2019 was unconstitutional and immoral,” NC chief spokesperson said.
He also said NC wants statehood to Jammu & Kashmir should be restored at the earliest.
The divisional administration Kashmir is celebrating a Foundation Day of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir on October 31, 2024 at SKICC Srinagar. The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will be the chief guest at the occasion.
The NC leader added that ‘darbar move’ has remained the legacy of J&K since the era of Maharaja, and we have promised in our manifesto that matters linked with J&K will be revived.
“Darbar move is directly linked with statehood, and the party is hopeful that it will be restored soon. It was a relation between people of Jammu and Kashmir, but BJP has broken this age-old knot,” he said.
“The promises and guarantees made by our party in the manifesto will not be fulfilled overnight. People of J&K have given us mandate for five years. Each and every issue will be fulfilled in a gradual manner,” he added.
CPI(M) senior leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami while commenting on the event said “assaulting constitutional rights of the citizens shouldn’t be celebrated”.
“I have not received any invitation as of now,” Tarigami told Greater Kashmir.
He said the Jammu was put under strict restrictions that time, while Kashmir was blacked out where all communication channels were snapped. “This shows how J&K was treated by New Delhi,” he said.
“The denial of rights and assaulting the constitutional rights of the citizens should not be celebrated. It is inappropriate,” he added.
