Minimum temperature improves in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 27: Light rains lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday while minimum temperatures improved across Kashmir, the Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said.
The MeT officials here recorded 1.2 mm rainfall in Qazigund, traces in Jammu, 1.5 mm in Banihal, and 0.9 mm in Baderwah.

They said that the weather was expected to remain generally cloudy with isolated instances of light rain or snow on November 27 and 28, followed by more precipitation from November 29 to 30.
The MeT officials said that there was relief to residents from cold conditions as the minimum temperatures improved across Kashmir.

However, they said a thick layer of fog engulfed most parts of Kashmir on Monday.
“A thick layer of fog engulfed most parts of Kashmir on Monday morning,” the MeT officials said. “There was less impact of fog than previous years.”

They said shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue till Tuesday over many places of Kashmir.

The MeT officials said that Srinagar recorded a minimum of 3.5 degrees Celsius, up from zero degrees Celsius the previous night.
They said that Gulmarg ski resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded below-the-freezing point minimum temperatures at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius.

The MeT officials said that Pahalgam health resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district recorded a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius while Kokernag town registered a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius.

They said that the minimum temperature in south Kashmir’s Qazigund settled at 2.6 degrees Celsius while in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, the minimum temperature settled at a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.
