They said that the bridge once completed would be a big boost to horticulture sector and would connect several villages of Langate Tehsil and Mawer area.

“With the completion of this bridge it would significantly shorten the distance between several villages and will help commuters to reach their respective destinations in shortest possible time,” said a local Bilal Ahmad.

The residents said that although few months ago construction work of this bridge was resumed but the work was being carried out at slow pace.

The residents have sought intervention of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan in this regard so that the construction of the bridge could be completed in time.

Handwara bus stand in pathetic condition

Handwara bus stand in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district is in pathetic condition reflecting the apathy of concerned authorities.

The huge potholes within the bus stand have been giving tough time to the commuters since two years but authorities seem to be unmoved, adding to the woes of people.

"Huge potholes within bus stand are often filled with muddy rainwater. It has become a common scene to see passengers run away to avoid being splashed with muddy water whenever vehicles come near a pothole," a visitor told Greater Kashmir.

The shopkeepers running shops in the bus stand said that although previous year a small portion was macadamized but unknowingly majority of the area was left out. The residents have demanded early macadamization of the bus stand.
