Damaged Sumbal bridge poses risk to commuters
The vital bridge connecting the Sumbal-Hariganiwan area with the Srinagar-Leh national highway is in a dilapidated condition, posing a danger to commuters.
The bridge over the Nallah Sindh at Sumbal in tehsil Gund of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is severely damaged, with hundreds of vehicles using it daily.
This bridge is crucial as it serves as an alternate route for those traveling on the Srinagar-Leh highway towards Sonamarg, Ladakh, or towards Srinagar.
It is also important for areas like Sumbal, Surfraw, Hariganiwan, and others, as it connects them with the main highway. Locals stated that the bridge has not been repaired for years and now poses a risk of accidents.
They urged the authorities to repair the bridge or construct a new one for the convenience of the people.
