Khanyar residents decry defunct drainage system

Srinagar, Nov 17: Residents of Sumkachbal area of Khanyar in Downtown here have demanded proper cleaning of drains in their area.

A delegation from the area said blocking of drains causes immense inconvenience to them. “Due to overflowing of drains, we face problems. Besides pungent smell emanating from the drains poses health risks to us,” they said.

“Waste from houses and outlets like poultry and mutton shops mix in the open drainage system, which triggers unbearable smell. The dumping of offal, and other organs of sheep after slaughtering blocks drains,” said a local.

The ward officer of the area said he will look into the issue. “We will direct the concerned staff to resolve the issue,” he added.
