Kerala’s first-inning lead against J&K sets up tense final day
Srinagar, Feb 11: A thrilling contest between Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Kerala in the ongoing Ranji Trophy quarter-final match has reached a decisive juncture, with Kerala securing a crucial one-run first-innings lead. The slight margin has significantly altered the dynamics of the game, putting J&K under pressure as the match heads into the final day.
Former J&K Ranji player Samiullah Beigh has weighed in on the intense battle between J&K and Kerala, believing this tiny margin has significantly shifted the dynamics of the match heading into the final day.
Speaking with Greater Kashmir about the match situation, Beigh highlighted that the morning session on the final day will be decisive. "If J&K can strike early and take two or three wickets, the game will be over quickly," he stated. He pointed out that the pitch, which played true on earlier days, won’t be the same. “There will be variable bounce and a bit of spin, which will make batting tricky.”
J&K’s Bowling Attack Holds Key
Analysing J&K’s bowling strength, Beigh placed his faith in the pace trio of Aqib Nabi, Umar Nazir, and Yudhvir Singh. “Aqib is the key. He, along with Umar and Yudhvir, can open the floodgates in the morning. They bowled well today, beating the bat numerous times, but were not lucky to find the edge, “he said, also mentioning that dropped catches proved costly for the team.
Pressure on Both Teams
Beigh also touched upon the psychological aspect of the game.
“Kerala were 200 for 9, and their last-wicket stand was too much for J&K’s liking. That one-run lead has sent anxiety among cricket fans. J&K must remain confident, though. It’s just a matter of a couple of early wickets, and the game could turn in their favour,” he said.
Meanwhile, as J&K aims to bounce back and Kerala looks to consolidate their advantage, the match is finely poised. All eyes will be on the final day to see whether J&K can overturn the deficit or Kerala seals the victory.
However, Beigh predicts J&K victory by afternoon in case bowlers remain patient and fielders take the catches.
