Jaishankar to attend Trump’s swearing-in ceremony
New Delhi, Jan 12: External Affairs Minister (EAM), Dr S Jaishankar, will represent the Government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Donald J Trump, who is set to assume office as the 47th President of the United States.
The inauguration, scheduled for January 20 will also see the swearing-in of Vice President-elect J D Vance.
The invitation to attend the historic ceremony was extended by the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee.
Dr Jaishankar is also likely to hold meetings with the new US administration to discuss critical areas of bilateral cooperation. In addition some bilateral meetings with other international dignitaries attending the ceremony are also not ruled out.
India will closely monitor the policies of the Trump administration, particularly on issues such as H1-B visa reforms, supply chain resilience, and Indo-Pacific strategy.
The swearing-in ceremony will witness the presence of several world leaders, highlighting the significance of the occasion.
The inauguration marks the beginning of a new phase in US domestic and foreign policy, with potential implications for India's interests in the region and beyond.
