International Pheran Day observed at Lal Chowk
Srinagar, Dec 21: International Pheran Day was celebrated during an event in Srinagar’s commercial hub Lal Chowk today.
In a unique gesture, a man draped the life size portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in traditional Kashmir Pheran on the occasion.
Pheran is a traditional knee-length robe that is part of the unique identity of Kashmiri culture. It is a woollen gown worn for protection from cold in winter.
The portrait of the PM became the main attraction of the event and visitors were seen clicking photographs with it.
Scores of locals and tourists gathered at Lal Chowk to celebrate the International Pheran Day.
Several people wore Pheran and also carried the traditional kangri (firepot) with them. The day coincides with the beginning of Chillai Kalan. the 40-day-long harshest phase of the winter
Wearing traditional colorful Pherans, men, women, and children gathered near the Ghanta Ghar to get attention from the public.
