Inter-school Kabaddi tournament begins at BHSS Sopore

Sopore, Aug 30: The 3rd Inter-School Cluster Level Kabaddi Tournament kicked off Saturday at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore, featuring teams from across the region and aiming to promote grassroots sports development.

The tournament began with the inaugural match played between BHSS Sopore and Higher Secondary School Hadipora, which set the tone for the spirited competition ahead.

The opening ceremony was graced by Joint Director of Education (North Kashmir) Hakim Tanveer, who was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address, Tanveer appreciated the efforts of the school and the sports wing in providing a platform for young players to showcase their talent. He underlined the importance of sports in the holistic development of students, stressing that games like kabaddi not only promote physical fitness but also foster discipline, teamwork, and leadership qualities.

Besides the chief guest, several sports dignitaries, education officials, teachers, and local sports enthusiasts were present at the event. Their presence highlighted the growing recognition of school-level sports as a stepping stone for nurturing future athletes.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Joint Director of Education North Kashmir, Hakim Tanveer, emphasised the importance of sports and co-curricular activities in the overall development of students.

He said that such activities not only promote physical fitness but also help inculcate discipline, teamwork, and leadership qualities among the youth. Tanveer further added that the Education Department is committed to providing platforms for students to showcase their talent, both in academics and extracurricular fields.
