New Delhi, Dec 12: The inaugural India-Greece Maritime Security Dialogue was held in Athens on December 11, 2025, marking a new chapter in cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting opened with an address by Greece’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Alexandra Papadopoulou.

India’s delegation was led by Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Greek side was represented by Ambassador Andreas Fryganas, Political Director, and Ambassador Maria Theofili, Head of the Task Force for the UN Security Council.

During the talks, both sides exchanged assessments on the maritime situation in the Mediterranean, the Arctic and the Indo-Pacific.

They discussed ways to promote a safe and secure maritime environment that supports economic growth, including through bilateral cooperation and engagement in multilateral platforms.

Areas of potential collaboration included maritime domain awareness, sustainable marine economy development, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, naval cooperation and improved maritime connectivity, with an emphasis on expanding ties in the shipping sector.

Both sides expressed their commitment to deepen engagement across the maritime domain and agreed to hold the next round of talks in New Delhi at a mutually convenient date, once the agreed deliverables from this first meeting are achieved.
