Impenetrable security in place ahead of voting, PM's visit: IGP Kashmir
Srinagar, Sep 16: The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi Monday said that a strong security arrangement has been put in place ahead of the first phase of Assembly elections to be held on September 18.
Speaking to GKTV, Birdi said that during elections the movement of VIPs, VVIPs is a routine, and that the defence will be in place as per the security procedure, referring to the PM's visit on Sep 19.
The top cop said that a multi-tier security has been established especially for polling booths and that the paramilitary and the state armed forces have knitted an inextricable security cover over the place.
He said, the armed forces have and are strongly dominating areas.
About the deployment of troops, the police chief said that it would be based on the directions of Election Commission of India (ECI).
Birdi said that the forces are "highly vigilant and active."
