Gurez registers highest voter turnout of 78% in Kashmir division; 8th across J&K

Jammu, Oct 2: Gurez assembly segment of Bandipora district has recorded the highest polling percentage (77.96 percent) in the Kashmir division in just concluded assembly elections.

Not only this in yet another distinction to its credit, Gurez has surged ahead of 37 assembly segments of the Jammu division as far as poll percentage is concerned.

Gurez was among 40 assembly segments spread across seven districts which went to polls in the last phase of three-phased assembly elections on October 1.

Only Inderwal (82.16 percent), Padder-Nagseni (80.67 percent), Shri Mata Vaishnodevi (80.45 percent), Akhnoor (79.70 percent), Marh (79 percent), Chhamb (79 percent), Kishtwar (78.24 percent) assembly constituencies of Jammu division figured above Gurez.

Chhamb, Akhnoor and Marh assembly constituencies of Jammu district also saw polling in the last phase.

Kangan (72.18 percent) in Ganderbal district, Khan Sahib in Budgam district (72.08 percent), Pahalgam in Anantnag district (71.26 percent) and Charar-i-Sharief in Budgam district (70.27 percent) assembly segments figured below Gurez in Kashmir division.

Besides Gurez, 15 assembly segments went to polls in the last phase in the Kashmir division.

They included Kupwara district’s Karnah, which recorded 68.50 percent polling; Trehgam 66.18 percent; Kupwara 62 percent; Lolab 63 percent; Handwara 69.21 percent; Langate 66.60 percent; Baramulla district’s Sopore 45 percent; Rafiabad 61.94 percent; Uri 67.55 percent; Baramulla 54 percent; Gulmarg 65.74 percent; Wagoora-Kreeri 60.72 percent; Pattan 67.30 percent and Bandipora district’s Sonawari 69.84 percent and Bandipora 63.21 percent.

In Jammu division, Udhampur district’s Udhampur West recorded 76.92 percent; Udhampur East 77 percent; Chenani 76.82 percent and Ramnagar 72.35 percent polling.

In Kathua district, its six assembly segments viz., Bani, Billawar, Basohli, Jasrota, Kathua and Hiranagar registered 75 percent, 71 percent, 69.37 percent, 74.26 percent, 72.20 percent and 72 percent voter turnout respectively.

Three assembly segments of Samba district viz., Ramgarh, Samba and Vijaypur saw 76.50 percent, 72.90 percent and 76.42 percent polling respectively.

Out of eleven assembly segments of Jammu district, Bishnah recorded 74 percent polling, Suchetgarh 71 percent, RS Pura-Jammu South 65 percent, Bahu 60.51 percent, Jammu East 62 percent, Nagrota 77.60 percent, Jammu West 57.65 percent (lowest across Jammu district) and Jammu North 72 percent polling.

As per the Election Commission of India, these tentative figures may slightly go up after the final count (including the postal ballot).
