Jammu, Nov 14: Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Thursday demanded immediate up-gradation of Jammu Railway Station by giving it full-fledged Divisional status on the pattern of Ferozpur Railway Division.

This demand was raised when the office bearers of JCCI led by its President Arun Gupta called on Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office.

The Union Minister, acceding to their demand, spoke to the Union Railway Minister. After conversation with the Railway Minister, he assured that Jammu Railway Station would be developed as a full-fledged Railway Division as requested by CCI Jammu.

Earlier, the JCCI delegation submitted a memorandum to him (Dr Jitendra) stating that in the past Jammu Railway Station was declared as a Railway Division but nothing concrete was done in this regard.

“Jammu is a major hub of railway operations for interstate and intrastate transportation. All major trains from different parts of the country and vice versa pass through Jammu Railway Station. Moreover, the rail is going to reach Srinagar very soon, which is also going to increase the number of Railway Stations and web of railway tracks in this border area. There is urgent need to upgrade the Jammu Railway Station by giving full-fledged Divisional Status on the pattern of Ferozpur Railway Division,” JCCI demanded.

“This will streamline the running of trains to and fro Jammu and will also open new avenues for creating employment opportunities for locals,” JCCI office bearers stated.

Dr Jitendra, while endorsing the demand put forth by JCCI, said, “Jammu Railway Station fully qualifies for being a Railway Division because the rail network has tremendously increased and further the rail is reaching Srinagar which is more than 300 kms away from Jammu.”
