Football legend Subhan Janwari remembered in Sopore on death anniversary
Sopore, Apr 17: The Physical Education Department, Zone Sopore, in collaboration with Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore, paid rich tributes to legendary footballer Mohammad Subhan Janwari on his death anniversary on Thursday.
A commemorative event was held at Subhan Stadium, Sopore, to honour Janwari’s lifelong contribution to football and youth development in Jammu and Kashmir. The Principal of BHSS Sopore, staff members, and local sports enthusiasts attended the gathering to celebrate his enduring legacy.
Widely regarded as one of the finest sportsmen from north Kashmir, Janwari devoted his life to nurturing talent and promoting football across the J&K. Locals recalled his influence extending far beyond Sopore, shaping the region’s football culture for decades.
“His style of play and coaching shaped generations of footballers. We can never forget his tactical brilliance,” said veteran footballer Fayaz Ahmad Halwai. “His legacy lives on in every player he mentored, and Subhan Stadium itself stands as a symbol of his dedication to the sport.”
Local football enthusiasts in the area said that Janwari’s name continues to inspire the football fraternity in Sopore and across J&K and that with his contributions are remembered as a cornerstone of the region’s sporting history.
