‘Ensure safety of children in private vehicles’
Srinagar, Mar 17: Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Srinagar has directed the authorities to ensure safety measures for children who travel in private vehicles to schools, coaching centres and crèches.
“It has been brought to the notice of this Child Welfare Committee that some privately owned vehicles (without proper documents), even with non-transport registration numbers, are transporting children to and from their residences to Educational Institutions like private schools, kinder gardens, coaching centres and crèches. Further these vehicles are often seen overloaded and overspeeding, posing a serious threat to the precious lives of the children on board,” chairperson CWC Dr. Khair Ul Nisa said in an order.
“The matter being very serious in nature, it has become necessary to request all the concerned law enforcement agencies to take the necessary measures for ensuring safety of the children,” it states.
The CWC has asked the Regional Transport Officer Kashmir and SSP Traffic (City) to take necessary action under Rules against such vehicles which pose threat to the children.
Chief Education Officer, Srinagar has been asked to issue directions to all Principles, Heads of the Educational Institutions to take all possible measures to ensure safety of their students failing which they shall be held responsible under relevant provisions of law.
