Encounter breaks out in Baramulla

Srinagar, Sep 13: An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Chak Tapper area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district late Friday evening.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, a top Police officer said, “The security agencies received an input about the presence of a highly-trained group of two to three terrorists in the area following which the area was cordoned.”

“After we received the input, the area was cordoned off by joint teams of Police in Baramulla and 29 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army. Later, the contact was established as well,” the senior Police officer said.

The officer said that the security forces were mobilised following credible intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.

“It is an orchard area and there is a very deep gorge at the site,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kashmir Zone Police in a post on microblogging site X said that the encounter started at Chak Tapper in the Pattan area of Baramulla.

“Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Police said in a tweet.

After the intense exchange of firing from both the sides, the firing stopped at around 11:15 pm but later resumed.
