Srinagar, Sep 13: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi completed his two-day Kashmir visit and assessed the security situation in J&K ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

During his visit, General Dwivedi held a series of high-level meetings with key officials, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to discuss the current security situation in the region.

General Dwivedi assured the Lieutenant Governor that the Army remains fully committed to maintaining peace and harmony in J&K.

He emphasised the Army’s continued efforts to ensure a stable and secure environment as the region prepares for the elections.

As part of the review, General Dwivedi interacted with both the outgoing and incoming Director Generals of Police (DGP), Rashmi Ranjan Swain and Nalin Prabhat.

The discussions focused on key aspects of law and order, counter-insurgency operations, and coordination between the Police and the military in maintaining security.

In addition to his meetings with civil administration and Police officials, the COAS conducted an extensive review of the operational preparedness of various military formations.

He met with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Northern Command, along with GOCs from Chinar Corps, White Knight Corps, and Rising Star Corps.

These discussions revolved around counter-terrorism operations, border security, and the overall security framework for the region given the forthcoming elections.

As part of the Army’s modernisation and technology infusion efforts, General Dwivedi highlighted the Army’s decision to declare 2024 as the ‘Year of Tech Absorption’.

The initiative is focused on integrating modern technology into military operations and infrastructure.

During his visit, the COAS was given a detailed presentation on the latest advancements, including a demonstration of a 3D-printed building and the Fast Erectable Rubik Permanent Defence system.

These initiatives are part of the broader modernisation efforts to enhance the operational capabilities and infrastructure of the Indian Army in the region.

The Army’s push for modernisation is expected to strengthen its readiness and response capabilities in J&K, especially with ongoing counter-terrorism operations and the heightened security requirements ahead of the assembly elections.
