Srinagar, Oct 10: The 69th National School Games – 2025 for Football, organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports J&K under the aegis of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), culminated on Friday in a spectacular grand finale.

As per a statement, the tournament, which commenced on October 6th, showcased a thrilling display of skill and sportsmanship from U-19 age group young athletes across the nation.

Kerala emerged as the champion, clinching the gold medal with a commanding 2-0 victory over a spirited Meghalaya in the final match. The day was packed with high-stakes football, beginning with two intense semi-finals.

Kerala secured their place in the final by defeating Manipur 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw, with goals from M. Danish and Adwaith Leneesh. Manipur's goals were scored by L. Leishba and Kh. David Singh. In the other semi-final, Meghalaya overcame the host team, J&K, with a decisive 3-1 victory.

In the tournament's hardliner match, the host team, J&K, delivered a thrilling performance, defeating Manipur with a 4-3 scoreline. Reflecting on the team's campaign, Coach Ishfaq Ahmed, an international footballer, stated, "We may have missed the gold, but the spirit, pride, and passion of our boys shine brighter than ever. Every effort, every kick, every moment was pure dedication to Team J&K and YSS. Proud J&K."

The Director General of the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K, Anuradha Gupta, expressed her profound gratitude to the convenors and members of all the committees for the flawless execution of the sports extravaganza. She commended their efforts, stating, "The success of this event is a reflection of our team's dedication.
