Drug peddler held with contraband in Baramulla: Police

Srinagar, Aug 15: Police on Thursday arrested a drug peddler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police spokesperson said that a police party of Police Station Boniyar headed by SHO PS Boniyar at a checkpoint established at Pehlipora-Naganari Crossing, intercepted a person, identified as Showkat Ahmad Baniyan son of Noor Alam resident of Kachardari Zehanpora. During search, 30 grams of charas was recovered from his possession.

He said the individual has been arrested and shifted to PS Boniyar.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Boniyar, and investigation has been initiated, spokesperson said.

Police urged common masses to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112 if they witness drug peddling or any other crime in the society. They requested people to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, and assured the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.
