Drug peddler arrested in Kulgam

Kulgam, Feb 19: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police in Kulgam have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police party headed by Incharge PP Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Alstop intercepted a vehicle (Wagnor Car) bearing registration number JK02AD-3680 driven by one person. During checking, 5 kgs of poppy straw-like substance was recovered from the vehicle. The accused person identified as Ganesh Kumar resident of Amroo Ramnagar, Udhampur has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been set into motion.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
