DPS Srinagar boys win Inter-DPS football title
Srinagar, Oct 14: In a remarkable display of dominance and determination, Delhi Public School (DPS) Srinagar clinched the Inter-DPS Football Tournament (Boys Open, Zone 1) title, defeating DPS Amritsar in a dramatic penalty shootout to emerge champions at the event hosted by DPS Mohali on October 12 and 13.
As per a statement issued, the team emerged victorious from a competitive field of 16 schools.
The journey to the championship was one of sheer dominance, defined by an explosive offence and an impenetrable defence. The team announced their ambitions early with a decisive 11-1 victory over DPS Pathankot, followed by commanding wins against DPS Jhakri (4-0) and DPS Bhatinda (10-0).
This flawless performance propelled them into a high-stakes semi-final clash against the defending champions, DPS Faridabad. Rising to the occasion, our team delivered the most masterful performance, securing a decisive 5-0 victory to advance to the final.
The championship match against DPS Amritsar proved to be a true test of character. In a fiercely contested battle, the teams were locked at 1-1 after regulation time, forcing a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Demonstrating exceptional composure under immense pressure, our boys held their nerve to clinch the shootout 3-2 and lift the coveted trophy.
Principal Shafaq Afshan celebrated the historic win, stating, "This is a phenomenal achievement. The team displayed incredible skill, discipline, and a champion's mindset from the first whistle. Overcoming the defending champions and prevailing in such a tense final is a testament to their immense character. Our entire school community is incredibly proud."
