Double-lane steel bridge over Chapra nullah along Ramban-Gool road nears completion
Ramban, Dec 11: In a major boost to road connectivity in the remote areas of Ramban district, the construction of a 45-metre double-lane steel superstructure bridge over the Chapra nullah in Sangaldan along the Ramban-Gool road by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is nearing completion.
Executed by 52 RCC and 760 BRTF under the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), the project, constructed at a cost of Rs 9 Cr including a one-kilometre approach road, aims to resolve the long-standing issue of frequent road blockades caused by flash floods in the Chapra nullah.
The new bridge, measuring 45 metres in length and 12 metres in width, replaces a vulnerable and repeatedly damaged C-shape stretch that often disrupts movement, leaving commuters, students, patients, and government employees stranded during rains.
For years, the Chapra nullah had been a major bottleneck on the Ramban-Gool-Sangaldan-Mahore route.
Locals say the near-completion of the bridge marks the fulfilment of a long-pending demand and a “dream project” for the area.
Residents expressed gratitude to the government and BRO for addressing a persistent challenge that caused immense hardship, noting that the bridge would ensure better access to healthcare, education, and administrative services.
Improved connectivity is also expected to promote tourism in the picturesque Gool valley, which has remained underserved due to inadequate infrastructure.
Officials said the project reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening road infrastructure in remote and hilly regions, ensuring all-weather connectivity and fostering economic development.
Once operational, the bridge is expected to keep the Ramban-Gool-Sangaldan-Mahore corridor open even during adverse weather conditions, marking a significant step forward for the region’s overall progress.
