Pedestrian killed in Katra accident; family stages protest

Rajouri, Dec 11: A pedestrian lost his life late Wednesday night after being struck by a speeding Omni van in Katra town of Reasi.

The impact of the collision was so severe that an elderly man had to leap aside to save himself and the entire incident was captured on CCTV footage.

Family members of the deceased held the administration responsible for the tragic accident.

They held a strong demonstration in anger and grief and placed the body at the town’s main square while staging a protest.

Protesters alleged that reckless driving had become rampant in Katra, leading to frequent accidents on the town’s narrow roads.

They demanded that the administration should provide adequate compensation along with a government job to the family of the deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Manohar Lal (45), son of Prem Nath and a resident of Ward No 3, Katra. Police said he was hit by an Omni van, bearing registration number JK20 9671.

A case has been registered in Katra police station and the Police have taken up investigation into the matter.
