Kupwara, Jul 13: Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat Saturday visited the remote Lolab Valley in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, marking the first-ever visit by a DGP to the area. The visit was amid to have first hand experience of enhanced security measures and preparedness in the region.

The DGP was welcomed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani at Police Headquarters Kupwara following which they along with other officers proceeded towards Lolab where he was briefed on various operational activities being taken on ground.

During his interaction with Police personnel, DGP hailed them for their commitment and resilience in maintaining law and order in the challenging situations. He impressed upon officials to continue with their public friendly measures for the larger interest and community trust.

Kupwara Police in a statement said, "In a historic move, the Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Nalin Prabhat on Saturday became the first police chief to visit the Lolab Valley in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district a region once known for terrorism and unrest,".

"This is the first time that such a high-ranking police officer has visited this remote and sensitive area, which lies close to the Line of Control and has faced security challenges for many years". "The DGP’s visit aimed to review the law-and-order situation, assess security arrangements, and boost the morale of local police forces. He was accompanied by senior officers, including SSP Kupwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani," reads the statement.

"The visit was also meant to send a clear message that there will be zero tolerance for terrorism and violence and that the administration is serious about ensuring lasting peace in every part of the Union Territory". "Locals welcomed the visit and called it a positive and historic step. Many residents said it was the first time they felt truly seen and heard by top-level officials. People appreciated that the DGP came to the area personally instead of just sending reports or instructions from afar" reads the statement further.
